Living in the grey area.

In conversation with Suki Fuller, founder and analytical storyteller at Miribure - a company that provides growth and strategic intelligence integration to businesses throughout Europe.

Meet Suki Fuller, founder of Miribure and co-founder and senior Vice President Europe of DC Analytics.
Suki sits on the advisory board of Tech London Advocates & Global Tech Advocates and co-leads TLA Women in Tech and GTA Black Women in Tech.
An advisory, non-executive director, and board member to multiple start-ups, Fuller is currently immersed in the world of safety tech.
In this episode of Nothing Ventured, Suki and Aarish discuss online safety, analytics, and women in business.

Analytical storyteller.

This week’s episode begins with Suki explaining the role of an analytical storyteller.
She says, “it is the combination of the quantitative and qualitative parts of analysis.”
The quantitative aspect is built with data and logic, whereas the qualitative comprises the human perspective.
She says, “I tell the story of data. I help mitigate risk and build resilience with companies by ensuring they know both sides of the story.”
The objective of an analytic storyteller is to provide strategic intelligence and competitive advantage.

Operating in the grey area.

Aarish and Suki discuss the pros and cons of the online world, safety tech, and what it means to live in a grey area.
Safety tech focuses on protecting the online human experience.
Suki explains that we prosecute people who harass others verbally on the street, so those rules should still apply online.
Thankfully, progress is being made.
The last measures of the Online Harms bill have gone before parliament. Tech companies will soon be held accountable for what happens on their platforms.
Suki continues, “there must be clear guidelines stipulating what is and is not acceptable behaviour online.“
Right now, we’re operating in the grey area and that should not be the case.
The online world needs to start reflecting on the physical world.
Aarish and Suki further discuss the pros and cons of the online world and, in particular, the availability of personal information and data.

Women in tech.

Later, Suki and Aarish discuss the lack of support for females in business and the gender pay gap.
According to Suki only 1% of VC funding goes to female founders.
The change has to come from the top.
She says, “by staying silent, you are being complacent”.
Fuller also gives insight into her experience as a black woman in an industry where she is a minority.
She expresses her disappointment in the lack of progress for supporting women within the ecosystem.

Lessons learned.

Lastly, Suki shares her greatest piece of advice.
She says, “if you don’t try, you’ll never know”.
She encourages anyone with an idea, business plan, or dream to take the steps to bring it to fruition.
Fuller continues, “you have nothing if you have not tried. Impossible is the word I’m possible.”

Aarish and Suki talk about the importance of backing and believing in yourself even when others don’t have faith in your vision.
She ends the podcast by saying, “you have to take care of yourself first, and when you have a good idea, don’t get sidetracked by people who don’t have your best interests at heart.”
